+FAV: All Hours are not created equal

My dear friend David (@tricon) linked me to this post over at 37 Signals yesterday. I’ve had it open for 24 hours and keep going back to it. I love it and am filing it in my empowerment folder.

We could all learn a thing or two from Carlos Segura (original 37signals co-founder, principal of Segura, the man behind 5inch and T.26, and one of century’s top 100 designers). This weekend we shared a good laugh over his new rate card… Gotta love this:

  • $150/hr Standard Rate
  • $200/hr if you want it NOW
  • $250/hr if you want to watch over my shoulder while I work
  • $300/hr if you want to help
  • $400/hr if you worked on it first

So true, isn’t it?

Absolute genius if you ask me.

+FAV: Tech & Privacy by David Fendley

This morning my good friend David published a great post over at his blog that I’d love to point you all towards. It’s a great, quick read that should spark some conversation. Enjoy!

This isn’t to say that there aren’t valid reasons for having these checkpoints, but as explained above, they don’t tell us what is being done with that information. The answer to this is developer responsibility. Developers need to create a bond of trust with their users by crafting solutions that take their user’s emotions and respect into account.

+Fav: Facebook Timeline

After hearing about Facebook Timeline last week I was intrigued and immediately impressed by the overall design I saw in the demo. So naturally, loving all things shiny and sweet I wanted to figure out a away to start using this right away. Luckily there were some great resources and walk throughs posted soon after the presentation and I was soon off an running with Facebook Timeline. Want to use it now as well? Click here for instructions.

Once I had it up and running I took it for a spin and took a trip down memory lane. It reminded me of connections with people I hadn’t spoke with in a while, some sad times as well as some happy and funny times. It was amazing to see the extent of my existence on Facebook. It was exciting to see how I’ve changed, how my music and art tastes have changed as well. Same with vocabulary, relationships, photography, etc.

Needless to say I feel like Timeline is probably the best innovation to Facebook I’ve ever seen since the great resign back a few years ago. It’ll be fun to see what creative things people do with their “featured photo” area as well. It’ll also be interesting to see what doors people are willing to open into their current past lives.

Here’s to Facebook Time and hopefully everyone will be able to start using it soon enough.

+FAV: Youk, Biz & Herb Light it Up!

Herb, Biz & Youk

Herb Chambers, Biz Markie and Kevin Youkilis teamed up to produce an amazing ad spot for Herb Chambers Car Companies. Check out the video below and then head over to http://wevegotwhatyouneed.com to vote on who’s a better singer!

Disclaimer: The company I work for @nealadv and @elementprod helped created this video and ad campaign. I’m posting it here on my blog because I think it’s totally badass.
